Explanatory notes to the tests

What can I do with the outcome?

On the continuum from meat-eater to vegan, all phases are connected, with nearby phases being more closely related than distant ones. People can move in both directions. A "good" result is bell-shaped: one highest percentage, with percentages declining in both directions. When more than one peak occurs, the result is "odd".

Non bell-shaped result

A non bell-shaped result is a sign that your behavior towards animals is not fully consistent with your opinions. Whether that is a problem is entirely up to you. On the Animal Freedom website you can find many articles that may help bring the two more in line, if you wish.

What is a "threshold"?

A score on "thresholds" higher than 0 means there is a fair chance you will not soon change your behavior towards animals. Thresholds are not insurmountable – just as with ordinary thresholds, you can stumble or step over them. Knowing your thresholds helps you understand what to watch out for.

Examples of thresholds are a lack of knowledge about what really goes on in animal farming ("what the eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve about"), the feeling of little effectiveness ("a drop in the ocean"), or the idea that it is "no concern of theirs" (not responsible). When people feel that way, there is little chance they will adjust their behavior to their conscience.
