Explanatory notes to the tests

What can I do with the outcome and what are "odd results"?

In the continua (lines) from meat-eater to vegan or from making use of animals to leaving animals in peace and freedom, all intervening phases are connected to one another, while the relation with a nearby phase is closer than with a phase farther away. This applies in both directions. On a continuum people can move into two directions. There are lots of consumers of meat who, influenced by the scandals in factory farming, eat less and less meat and who become more and more aware that in fact with their way of life they want to cause as little animal suffering as possible. There are vegans who have become that way all at once and who only realize what that means after they have adopted the vegan life style during some time. A fair chance exists that eventually they will start using more animal products. How fast you move through the phases depends on the strength of the ties with adjacent phases, expressed in chance percentages. The higher the percentages in one direction compared to the other direction, the more you are being pulled into that direction. With a "good" test the outcome of someone who is not on the extreme side is "bell"-shaped or have one peak. The score presents one highest percentage and into both directions percentages decline. When more peaks occur the result is "odd".

Non "bell"-shaped or two peak result

It is a sign that your behavior towards animals is not fully consistent with your opinions. Whether or not that is a difficulty, is entirely up to the judgment of the person who completed the test. On the site of Animal Freedom many articles can be read that can help to adjust matters, if that would suit you. Also in case you score extreme as a vegan or as a meat consumer, the result is of course not fully bell-shaped, but percentages decline or raise from or towards the most distant point. If you consider that to be correct, than your opinions are consistent with your food choices.

What is being understood by a "threshold"?

If the score on "thresholds" is higher than 0 a fair chance exists that you will not soon alter your behavior concerning animals, or only once the discrepancy between what you think and what you do has truly become very large. Thresholds can be overcome. Just as is the case with ordinary thresholds, you can either stumble or step over them. Important for someone who considers to stop his meat consumption is to pay attention to these thresholds, so that you know what to watch out for. Examples of thresholds are a lack of knowledge on what really goes on with animals in farming: "what the eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve about". It is also possible that people think their contribution to the world is "a drop in the ocean" (little effectiveness) or "no concern of them" (not responsible). When people feel that way, there is little chance they will adjust their behavior to their conscience.

logoThis page describes one aspect of the influence that man has on the quality of life of an animal. We wish to promote the (in other countries as well) growing of awareness, that freedom is also important for an animal. An animal is not a thing, but a being that has the right to quality of a natural way of life. If you want to do something to help animals, click here for our suggestions.
